Stanford Baseball did three novel things Tuesday: score throughout a game, pitch strong out of the bullpen and avoid imploding in the field. The result was a 9-4 victory at Nevada, ending the Cardinal's six-game losing skid. Two players had perfect days at the plate, and a third nudged his average briefly over .400. Junior David Stringer closed with two-hit shutout pitching the final five innings.

If you arrived for the ninth inning of Saturday's game at Sunken Diamond, you witnessed a flurry of offense with Stanford's nine runs and 10 hits following five runs and five hits by UCLA. But the Bruins had already built a massive lead and held on for the 16-11 victory, their second straight of the series. Stanford's pitchers were skewered, while the umpires added controversy early and late.

The Cardinal baseball team continues to excel in close games as Stanford edged California 5-4 on Saturday afternoon. The home team mustered a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to erase a slight Bears lead with the bullpen then slamming the door in the final frames. The win marked Stanford's seventh straight victory while the Cardinal look for the three-game sweep Sunday afternoon.

The Stanford pitching staff has, for the most part, struggled on the road this early season. With a long stretch of home games now underway, the time is now for the Cardinal hurlers to get back on the right track. Tuesday night saw relievers Austin Yount and David Stringer fire eight scoreless innings to end the ballgame as Stanford posted a 4-1 victory over the USF Dons.
