The 2010 draft has passed, and Coach John Cohen is content that his 2011 roster survived it mostly unscathed. Five members of this year's recruiting class had their names called in the three-day event but at this point Mississippi State expects four will wear Diamond Dog uniforms next spring. And beyond.

John Cohen is a self-confessed football fanatic, a familiar fall figure on the Mississippi State sidelines and frequent practice observer when his own team's practice schedule allows. When the football Bulldogs won last year's Egg Bowl it was hard to say which was jumping around more, Dan Mullen or the baseball boss.

AUBURN, Ala. - A six-run first inning proved too much for the Mississippi State baseball team to overcome Friday night. The Bulldogs dropped a 9-6 decision to Auburn in the opening game of a weekend Southeastern Conference series played at AU's Plainsman Park.

Coach John Cohen only thought he'd seen all the ways his team could beat itself. Friday night revealed yet another, though, as three Bulldog errors directly contributed to just as many runs in the top of the eighth inning and provided Ole Miss their margin of 4-2 victory to open the weekend series at Dudy Noble Field.

Just because there aren't any games to play, and spring exams have taken temporary priority, it doesn't mean the Diamond Dogs have not made their individual ways to Dudy Noble Field. Both the bullpen and batting cage have been in use as Mississippi State operated on an adjusted midweek schedule. It's a timely change of pace, to Coach John Cohen's way of thinking.
