Senior Mike "Big Mike" Iupati (an Outland Trophy Finalist) and junior free safety SHILOH KEO were named First Team All-Western Athletic Conference selections this week. In addition, senior receiver Max Komar, senior center Irvin Stevens III, junior defensive end Aaron Lavarias, junior linebacker Joseph "JoJo" Dickson, and freshman kicker Trey Farquhar were named Second Team All-WAC selections.

This Saturday the Vandals will host the Utah State Aggies in the finale of what has turned out to be a season to remember for Idaho fans. Coach Akey and crew have delivered on promises made three years ago when they took over the Idaho program, making the Vandals the surprise of the WAC in 2009. Twelve seniors will play their last home game in Moscow Saturday, as the team battles for a bowl bid.

In a game televised nationally on ESPN-U, the Idaho Vandals defeated the Colorado State Rams Saturday night in the Dome, improving to 4-1 on the season. Idaho overcame a 14-point first half deficit for a 31-29 win. The Vandal offense jumped out to a tenuous beginning, committing numerous offsides and holding penalties on their first drive and getting into a first-down-and-a-mile situation. But the team gained its composure and racked up 412 yards of total offense against the Huskies. Despite the production in the middle of the field, the offense stalled in the redzone. The Vandals jumped out to an impressive 21-0 lead going into halftime at New Mexico State on Saturday, looking poised and prepared (including MAX KOMAR rolling over an Aggie defender for a TD) in the season opener for both schools. In the second half the Idaho offense stalled, but the Vandal defense forced a couple Aggie turnovers in a bend-but-don't-break approach, yielding just one touchdown.

The wide receiver unit has taken their lumps in recent years, both in the press and on the field. In the last five years Idaho has operated under three different offensive coordinators, and this unit has suffered its share of attrition over the years. But this season, led by senior slot receiver MAX KOMAR and an experienced depth chart, the Vandals are poised to make the passing game a weapon.

Spring Camp 2009 is finished and the team now sets its focus on preparing for the season opener at New Mexico State in just a few months. Saturday's outcome was a frustrating followup to a solid performance two weeks ago, as the Vandals lost 46-14 on the road at Louisiana Tech (complete with questionable calls). Despite the frustrating setback, Idaho Head Coach ROBB AKEY talks about QB Nathan Enderle's development, the growing roles of some of the younger players on the team, and his philosophy about rebuilding this program.
