Missed opportunities highlight Cougs' AC loss

IF THERE EVER were a referendum game, this would be it. A win for Washington State would have shown tangible progress — at least in the win-loss column — under coach Paul Wulff and more importantly might have ended rumors about his job security. But that did not occur Saturday as Washington won the Apple Cup, 35-28, at Martin Stadium.

4 Cougar seniors reflect as careers wind down

PULLMAN -- All the spring practices, summer practices, fall practices, weight lifting, video sessions, position meetings, road trips, wins and losses -- and yes, there were far too many of the latter – come to a conclusion Saturday for the 20 seniors on the Washington State football team. Few, if any, will ever play football again.

So where did that Cougar d-line come from?

FOR A UNIT that has shouldered a lot of criticism from media and fans this season, the Washington State d-line was suddenly nails against Oregon State on the road. Any number of arguments can be made as to why the Cougs up front on defense all of the sudden looked like world beaters out there, but one stands above all else.

Cougs get physical, and then some

PULLMAN—Full contact? Check. Intensity levels? Off the charts. Extracurricular activity? You bet. And when the starting QB gets knocked down, well, the offensive linemen, they don't like that at all. Cougs focused, angry in week's first practice

PULLMAN -The Cougs took Rogers Field on Monday night for a short, spirited shoulder pads and helmets-only session, and CF.C turned the mic on Paul Wulff plus seniors Chantz Staden and Kevin Kooyman. And before Cougar Nation, as well as the players and coaches, put Week 1 in the rear view mirror for good, they had something to say about it. And one spoke directly to Cougar Nation.

WSU d-line dances to own music Wednesday

PULLMAN -- Simulating road conditions, with the opener at Oklahoma State now just 10 days away, the Cougs closed out Wednesday's 95-degree session at Martin Stadium with the noise of screaming fans blaring out of the stadium's speakers. The Cougar defensive line turned the racket into a private anthem.

DAY 8 late report: O finds groove; DT wows

PULLMAN--The offense jogged onto Rogers Field with helmets, shoulder pads and a chip on their shoulders. Daniel Blackledge showed solid hands, the o-line opened some running lanes but with the "game" on the line, would Wazzu score? On D, Aire Justin was giving away nothing in the secondary and Brandon Rankin showed blocking him will be a tall order. But the Cougs lost a reserve DL for the year.
