FOR A UNIT that has shouldered a lot of criticism from media and fans this season, the Washington State d-line was suddenly nails against Oregon State on the road. DAY 5: Full contact brings big hits, volume

PULLMAN -- The first day in full pads resulted in a tie at Washington State's practice Thursday. Not a tie on the scoreboard -- a tie between players and coaches for passion and energy. The defense had a big day, with Myron Beck, Kevin Kooyman, Tyree Toomer, Chima Nwachukwu and Nolan Washington all making the highlight reel. Plus, a true frosh got in some work with the No. 1 O, and much more.

WASHINGTON STATE DT Josh Luapo has rendered himself academically ineligible for the upcoming football season, according to reliable sources close to the program. The 6-0, 311-pound fifth-year senior played in four games during his WSU career but was expected to compete for a notable role in 2010. His departure creates an opportunity for some younger guns, one they already took to this spring.

SPRING DAY 12: Early start suits D just fine

PULLMAN – Chances are while you were just waking up Monday morning, the Cougars were already running sprints and getting after it on the gridiron. WSU's last week of spring drills began on Rogers Field at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, but it didn't lack for intensity. The defensive line continued to crash the party, the secondary got greedy and the combination of Tuel-to-Blackledge took flight.
