Inside The Unit: Defensive Tackles

Year in and year out we see college recruiters going hard after the best of the best but since the defensive tackle position is not a ‘groomed' position, good tackles are hard to find. Most of the time players are switched to the position. Arizona has had success in rebuilding its defensive tackle unit and entering the 2007 season the Wildcats have their deepest corps at the spot in many years.

In order to have a dominant defense it is vital to have a strong force up front to be able to stop the run and pressure the quarterback. Through the years the Arizona Football program has had more than their fair share of studs up front. Names like Van Tuinei, Rob Waldrop and Jim Hoffman come to mind.

Tuipulotu talks about Commitment

Since arriving in Tucson, Arizona defensive tackles Coach Mike Tuiasosopo has single handedly rebuilt the once proud Polynesian pipeline to Tucson. He has been instrumental in bringing in such talents as Willie Tuitama, Hans Philipp and Bryson Beirne and now you can add another Polynesian stud to the Tuiasosopo ledger.

USC shows interest in Tuipulotu

One player who has seen a good deal of attention from the Trojans as of late is four-star defensive tackle Kaniela Tuipulotu of Kahuku HS (HI.). Tuipulotu is recently eliminated in-state Hawaii in his final list of schools, focusing primarily on Utah and Arizona, that is until the Trojans came knocking on his door.

Four star DT prospect has OSU trip scheduled

ONE AREA OF NEED this recruiting class at Oregon State is for prep defensive tackles -- four of six scholarship DTs on the Beaver roster will be seniors in 2007. One who could fit the bill smartly is Kaniela Tuipulotu, the No. 17 ranked prep defensive tackle prospect in the nation. The 6-2, 285-pound gap filler out of Kahuku, Hawaii has an OSU offer and an official visit scheduled to Corvallis.

4-Star DT will visit Utes

Utah will be getting a visit from a four-star defensive lineman in January, but they could have some work to do. Kaniela Tuipulotu visited Arizona over the weekend and the Wildcats will have the edge, at least until he gets to Salt Lake City.
