Alfred stays low key as NFL chance looms

THE QUESTION for Kenny Alfred isn't whether he'll get a shot at the NFL, but if it's going to come via his name being called in the late rounds of this weekend's draft or a phone call afterward when teams are dialing furiously to lock up the best of the rest with free agent contracts. Regardless, the former WSU center tells CF.C he's ready, mentally and physically, for his chance at pro ball.

Tuel's escapability helped him earn start

PAUL WULFF SAID the decision to start Jeff Tuel does not mean staff is trying to 'anoint' anyone while injuries mean another new face starting at guard on the o-line. And what does Josh Luapo's season-ending knee injury mean to the rotation on the defensive line? News and notes galore coming out of Pullman today and headed into the practice week.

Charting the Cougar weight, muscle gains

THE UPDATED WEIGHTS for the Cougar footballers are in. The numbers, as they were in the spring, remain striking. There are many who have gained 15-20 pounds, and more, since last year. Then there are players who put on the bulk before the spring, then trimmed and repackaged it this summer to add quickness. CF.C charts the progression from fall of '08, to the '09 spring, to today.

Kevin Kooyman's Diary: Week Three

PULLMAN--I want to focus this week on the impact our strength and conditioning coach Darin Lovat has made. He immediately made his presence known in winter conditioning after the season ended - if you weren't mentally prepared each workout you found yourself in serious trouble. I have answers to your questions, plus I have something from this morning's workout I'd like to share with Cougar Nation.

WULFF: The last thing we're going to do is...

WASHINGTON STATE has had two bad beats in two Pac-10 games. There are a few position battles to be waged this practice week and the Cougs are about 50-50 on if they'll get back a couple defensive starters in time for UCLA. But there is also one thing the coaches won't do as they point towards the Bruins game and the rest of the season.
