Razor on Eugene Emeralds pitching prospects

While the majority of Dave Rajsich's tenure as pitching coach came in Arizona, he was called to the Eugene Emeralds late in the year, aiding many pitchers he saw in extended spring. Rey Garramone, Chris Perez, John Hussey, and Andrew Gribbin have all been under his tutelage while Matt Teague and Colt Hynes were among the newcomers.

An early game on Saturday ended up a winner, as the San Diego Padres Instructional League squad defeated the Texas Rangers 8-5. As is par for the course, there was some good and some bad to take away from the day.

Gribbin debuts; Hefner lights out

Mike Thompson hit a barrier in the seventh, and Craig Stansberry hits his fourth homer in the last nine games. Cesar Ramos escapes trouble until a three-run homer in the seventh. Jeremy Hefner posted zeroes over six, but John Hussey did not fare as well. Andrew Gribbin makes his system debut after signing in 2006, and Alexis Lara is impressive in relief.

Peoria, AZ-- Australian baseball is considered to be a burgeoning market. The San Diego Padres have attacked the Aussie scene under the direction of Randy Smith and have found two quality arms – Andrew Gribbin and John Hussey. Hussey has made tremendous strides over the course of the last year and Gribbin is the newcomer, getting his feet wet in professional baseball.
