THE VANDAL OFFENSIVE LINE HAS STOLEN THE HEADLINES THIS SPRING, but equally crucial will be how the Vandal defense recovers from its 2009 struggles. How much Idaho improves on the defensive side of the ball will depend in large part on how much they improve in the trenches. Among the team leaders, Idaho will have senior defensive end AARON LAVARIAS (6-3, 255) as a cornerstone to build around.

'09 PREVIEW: Developing Run Stuffers

Aguably, the success of the 2009 season rests squarely on the shoulders of the Vandal defensive line this fall. Obviously, its a team game and all units will need to play well to register more wins. But this group must set the tone defensively. With preseason All-WAC 1st Team selection JONAH SATARAKA (6-2, 289) leading the charge at noseguard, the Vandals will focus on becoming a brick wall.

Vandal Football Camp: Week In Review

This week Idaho welcomed several athletes back onto the gridiron, including senior tailback BRIAN FLOWERS. With two-a-day practices in full swing, the team is getting back into the rhythm of full contact drills. And Saturday marked the first full pads scrimmage of the season...a scrimmage dominated by the Vandal defense.

Inside is a look at eight "newcomers" who are already battling this spring for significant playing time. The group includes junior QB LUKE TRACY, one of three JC transfers joining the program as midyear transfers. Also included in the group are grayshirt and redshirt athletes expected to be in the thick of the hunt for playing time at various roster positions.
