Last week the SEC was a tad behind the Big 12 in my conference rankings but this week the planets and stars all aligned—despite some satellite junk hurtling through space—and the SEC has returned to its righteous spot at No. 1. Who else made some moves up or down?

It was somewhat ugly but LSU beat Mississippi State 19-6 in a Thursday night game that featured five field goals through three quarters of play. LSU's No. 3 ranking may or may not go up to No. 1 if Oklahoma gets beat by Florida State—it's possible Florida State jumps LSU for the No. 1 spot and LSU and Alabama fight over the No. 2 spot. So who looks like a world-beater in the SEC?

The No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks are preparing for their SEC opener with the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia slipped out of the top 25 this week with a loss to Boise State and will take on the Gamecocks at Sanford Stadium on Saturday. It will be quarterback Stephen Garcia's second career start in Athens.
