The Eastern Washington Eagles are the defending FCS National Champions, and received 23 of 28 votes to be ranked as the number one team in the country going into their season opener against the Washington Huskies. The game will be played Saturday at Husky Stadium, at 4 pm.

Washington won their last three games in a row, and not only earned a trip to the Holiday Bowl, but they got a huge measure of revenge in beating Nebraska. That is a great reward not only for a team that worked so hard to overcome a three-game losing streak, but also for a program that has not been to the post season in nearly a decade.

After a much-needed BYE week, Washington (1-2) gets back on the saddle, so to speak, and back into familiar territory - at least for Head Coach Steve Sarkisian. This will be Sarkisian's first return to Troy since leaving USC nearly two years ago. After the Huskies' 16-13 upset of the then No.3 Trojans in Seattle last year, does USC have something special cooking for Sark and company?

It's week three, and for some reason week three always brings about a tough opponent for Washington of late. USC, Oklahoma, Ohio State...it's been a virtual bloodbath at home. This weekend is no different, as the No. 6 Nebraska Cornhuskers come calling. Can the Huskies pull out a little last-second magic, as they did last year against the No. 3-ranked Trojans? Or will it a lopsided affair?

Wednesday was not a good one for the Washington Huskies, as Will Mahan was diagnosed with a season-ending injury, and running back Johri Fogerson is doubtful to play this Saturday against Syracuse.
