THERE WERE THREE ROSTER MOVES announced on Tuesday -- Quarterback Peter Lalich (pronounced lah-LICK), who was dismissed from the University of Virginia's football team a week ago for underage drinking, will enroll at Oregon State and start classes Monday. Meanwhile, two players on the current roster are reportedly no longer with the team.

CORVALLIS -- After a day off Sunday, the first for the Beavers since fall camp began, Monday morning at Oregon State saw a heavy emphasis on the basics and, as the head coach termed it, refinement. And Mike Riley was smack in the middle of all of it. Carl Sommer turned in the play of the morning, and there's more audio from the head man of the Beavs.

The Oregon State defensive line is packed with underclassmen and April was a time for the youngsters to make a case for playing time. Junior college transfer Stephen Paea impressed as well as senior Victor Butler, but the two deeps across the board remain muddled.

There isn't a Bill Swancutt or Inoke Breckterfield type player on the roster, but if you believe there is strength in experience then the Oregon State defensive line is your unit. Only two starters return from a year ago, but seven players are back who have played in at least 10 games each last season.
