Phillies Release Three Minor League Pitchers

As the final minor league rosters take shape, the Phillies released three minor league pitchers on Friday. The biggest name of the three is Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez, who never came close to reaching the projection he had as an international free agent.

Padres sign Jorge Cantu

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego Padres announced today that they have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with infielder Jorge Cantu and have agreed to terms on a minor league contract with right-handed pitcher Greg Burke with an invitation to Major League Spring Training.

Padres claim Wilson, make roster moves

The San Diego Padres claimed infielder Josh Wilson off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks. Additionally the club has recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher from Triple-A Portland, optioned right-handed pitcher Edwin Moreno to Portland, selected right-handed pitcher Greg Burke from Portland and requested waivers for the purpose of unconditional release on right-handed pitcher Duaner Sanchez.

Frieri rolling; Silva, bullpen solid

Walter Silva had a solid rehab start and the bullpen closed the door. Ernesto Frieri had another strong outing and Cedric Hunter seems to be breaking out. Allen Harrington is hammered in two-thirds while Luis Martinez' bat has come alive. Jaff Decker continues to reach base at a solid clip but his homaer is the only run until the ninth.

Zawadzki sizzles; Decker leads off

Walter Silva is back but the bullpen is the story with Gabe DeHoyos and Greg Burke starring. Mike Baxter, Cedric Hunter and Luis Durango pushed San Antonio to victory. Lance Zawadzki hits his seventh homer and Wynn Pelzer wins his fourth straight. Jaff Decker hits out of the leadoff spot while Stiven Osuna has his worst start ever.

Forsythe streaking; Durango, Lara break ties

Greg Burke has been money in the closer role and Joe Thatcher is stellar as the bridge. Luis Durango breaks a tie in the eighth with a bases loaded single. Yefri Carvajal and Logan Forsythe are two of the three that homered in Cha Seung Baek's rehab start. Robert Lara breaks a 3-3 tie with a double clearing the bags but a fine Simon Castro outing is wasted.
