Varnell off the DL; Kirby retires

Right-hander Grant Varnell was activated from disabled list today and right-hander Jon Kirby was placed on the San Diego Padres restricted retired list as the Fort Wayne Wizards start an 11-game, 12-day road trip.

EUGENE- Right-handed pitcher Jon Kirby became the first player to ever be drafted from Lee University. He also was the first player to see time with the Fort Wayne Wizards from the 2006 Draft class and has since settled in with the Eugene Emeralds.

Eugene plays exhibition; Hundley homers again

Jared Wells doesn't last long in his debut with Portland. Vince Sinisi helps spark a seven run ninth inning and adds an outfield assist. Kyle Stutes has been great in Lake Elsinore and was rewarded with a win. Nick Hundley homers again while Jon Kirby makes his debut. The Eugene Emeralds saw live game action in an exhibition game - a successful debut.
