The Yankees lost right-handed pitcher George Kontos to the San Diego Padres in the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2006 MLB Draft out of Northwestern University, he made a successful return from Tommy John surgery in 2010 and he's inching ever so close to being big league ready.

It takes nearly a year and a half for most pitchers to fully come back from Tommy John surgery. George Kontos still has a few months before hitting that milestone. However, the right-hander says he is getting real close to being his old self on the mound.
