Roundup: Tardy chose crimson (again) over MLB

PULLMAN -- One thing the Cougs appear to have proven in the preseason is that they are stronger physically, and mentally, than a year ago. The future looks bright but still, WSU lacks proven veterans. One Cougar who is cut from the veteran cloth turned down a contract from an American League baseball team last spring. And it wasn't the first time he chose Wazzu over professional baseball.

PULLMAN -- If there is one endeavor that excites athletes almost as much as competition, it is an open invitation to take a verbal shot or three at a teammate or coach. It's all in good fun. On the other hand, athletes can be quite candid and sincere in expressing their admiration for certain teammates and coaches.

Charting the Cougar weight, muscle gains

THE UPDATED WEIGHTS for the Cougar footballers are in. The numbers, as they were in the spring, remain striking. There are many who have gained 15-20 pounds, and more, since last year. Then there are players who put on the bulk before the spring, then trimmed and repackaged it this summer to add quickness. CF.C charts the progression from fall of '08, to the '09 spring, to today.
