Eddy Martinez and Jose Paulino were named the Cubs minor league players of the month of July while three other prospects earned player of the week honors. On the diamond, Paulino fired a gem to lead South Bend over Great Lakes and Eugene won on a walk-off.
Myrtle Beach made it eight straight on a walk-off single in the 11th from Charcer Burks. Jason Vosler had four hits in his AA debut and Darryl Wilson helped lead Eugene to another victory.
Myrtle Beach extended their winning streak to seven games and Eugene keeps racking up victories in the NWL.
David Bote helped lift Myrtle Beach to a 13-inning win over Frederick, Jose Paulino tossed seven solid innings in South Bend’s win and Tennessee’s offense shot down the Barons.
Eloy Jimenez earned player of the the week honors and then knocked in a pair of runs in a win. Rob Zastryzny was perfect for five frames in Iowa’s victory while South Bend’s Justin Steele tossed five shutout innings on a night when all four full-season affiliates were victorious.
South Bend left-hander Ryan Kellogg had one of his best outings of the season as the former fifth-round pick blanked Lake County for six innings.
Cubs draft picks Tyson Miller and Bailey Clark made their pro debut Saturday night in Mesa’s win and Eugene keeps rolling the NWL. And a pile of rehabs including Jorge Soler, Chris Coghlan, Trevor Cahill, Brian Matusz and Josh Conway.
