His stat line wasn't overwhelming Saturday night, but Gator freshman center Kenny Kadji made an impact in a game against the Vanderbilt Commodores where the Gators had to have him. Matched up during the game against All-SEC center A.J. Ogilvy, Kadji showed resilience and persistence against superb competition. The Gators are going to need a lot more of that as the season progresses.

Gator basketball coach Billy Donovan spoke Monday about his freshmen and how their practice performances resemble a wavy line, which is not unusual. The transition from high school to college can be challenging, particularly when you consider the length of the season. The Gators began practice in mid-October and hope to still be playing more than five months later.

Kenny Kadji bounces off the floor like a pogo stick. When the ball is in the air, the University of Florida freshman center scrapes the sky for rebounds and will come down with them more often than not. Kadji spent a few moments with the media and we caught him for this brief look at his personality.

Two exhibition games don't tell us a great deal about the Gator basketball team, so the early evaluation of the Gator freshman class should be taken with an entire box of salt. Still we've seen enough from four of the Gators newcomers to have inkling as to what Florida might get from them at least in the early part of this season.

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Nike Team Florida Fall Workout and Exposure Camp showcased seniors and juniors on Saturday. Kenny Kadji was the top prospect, Freddie Riley the day's best performer and Rakeem Buckles ruled the junior crop. Sunday means the best 2010 and 2011 prospects take center stage.
