OREGON STATE offered a textbook example of what not to do on defense in a season-ending, 96-92 loss to Radford in the first round of the CBI. Indeed, Radford scalded the Beavs in the first half, shooting 69 percent from the field, and 60 percent from the beyond the arc.

THE 342nd meeting between Oregon State and Oregon on the hardcourt was their first in the Pac-12 tournament and carried plenty of postseason implications for both. The Beavs shot an eye-popping 60.5 percent from the field but still somehow lost 88-74.

HERE'S A HEAD SCRATCHER. Oregon State's Roberto Nelson led the conference in scoring this year. Yet when the Pac-12 all-conference teams were unveiled on Monday, Nelson was tabbed second team. It is only the third time since 1955 a player has lead the conference in scoring and not made the first team.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN a shame to see Eric Moreland's night go to waste. The Beaver forward tore down a career-high 19 rebounds, many on the offensive end and OSU was coasting along with a double-digit lead late in the second half. But some familiar foes surfaced - turnovers and poor free throw shooting - and suddenly it was tied and headed into overtime. That's when Roberto Nelson stepped up.

THINGS LOOKED GOOD for the Beavs at the end of the first half. Oregon State held a nine-point lead and appeared on the verge of sweeping UCLA for the first time in 26 years. But OSU committed 16 turnovers in the game, missed a ton of free throws and shot under 40 percent from the floor in the second half on their way to a 74-69 loss in Los Angeles.

THERE WAS A point at the end of the first half in the Oregon State-Washington game that offered a prefect preview of what was to come in the second half. The Beavers produced all the defensive strength of a wet paper towel as the clock wound down, allowing lots of room and an open look. UW cashed in on that occasion, and many more times against the Beavers in the 86-62 loss at Gill Coliseum.

REBOUNDS LEAD TO second-chance points on the offensive end of the court. Rebounds, anywhere on the court, do a lot of good things. So it wasn't hard to see why the Beavs were on the losing end of a 76-54 decision against No. 2 Arizona. Oregon State had just four offensive rebounds in the game – and no second-chance points. They were also out-rebounded by 15 in the game.

OREGON STATE WILL lament the end of regulation more than they will the overtime period in an 86-82 loss at Arizona State on Thursday night. On their final four possessions in the second half, OSU had the chance to take the lead. The first three failed, the last one was a tying bucket. The Beavs' D then allowed the Sun Devils 22 points in overtime, just four less than ASU scored in the first half.
