WASHINGTON STATE is cutting ties with the quarterback in their incoming 2008 recruiting class, Lakes' Calvin Schmidtke. A statement from Wazzu head man Paul Wulff was released late Tuesday evening. Wulff's decision came after news that charges had been filed against the quarterback in two separate incidents.

SEATTLE - The Scout.com Northwest Hot 100 can now be put to bed for the class of 2008. Spanning five states and one province, there are 27 schools represented, from BCS conferences all the way down to NAIA Division-1. The top-20 didn't change much, but there was a new entry into the top-25, and the Oregon State Beavers had the two biggest risers in the group.

THE COUGAR OFFENSE that Paul Wulff and staff will bring to Washington State in 2008 requires a smart, athletic quarterback who can make precision throws. One such field general -- who completed a remarkable 76 percent of his throws in '07 -- received a crimson offer Thursday night. He immediately verballed to WSU, cancelled a planned official to Arizona and will instead trip to the Palouse.
