Cougs get physical, and then some

PULLMAN—Full contact? Check. Intensity levels? Off the charts. Extracurricular activity? You bet. And when the starting QB gets knocked down, well, the offensive linemen, they don't like that at all. MLB C.J. Mizell returned to the fold Wednesday, while DT Brandon Rankin returned to the starting d-line unit, after what he called an eye opening experience running with the 2's the day before.

Sears dishes on Cougar safeties, corners

IT ALMOST SEEMED at times this spring the Cougs didn't have four starters and four backups in the secondary as much as they had 7-8 quality guys rotating. That might not entirely be the case, said Jody Sears. But WSU, said the co-defensive coordinator, made a pretty good-sized jump in speed and quality of play over the back-forty. And one of those DBs got Sears' vote for the play of the spring.

SPRING BALL: Defense sets tone on Opening Day

PULLMAN — Full contact won't happen for a few days but that didn't stop the Cougar defense Thursday. Co-defense Coordinator Jody Sears called it a great energy session. Indeed, the Wazzu D was flying all over the field. And they had the offense's number for the most part -- the secondary showcased their talent with two interceptions off Jeff Tuel, courtesy of a pair of red-shirt sophomores.
