Corey Adams spent his childhood watching Arizona State football and dreamt of one day helping lead the program to newer heights. He came to Tempe as one of the more highly decorated recruits in recent years with perhaps even higher expectations, but a continuous string of unfortunate injuries derailed him through his first three years.

In such a violent game as football, it's probably surprising that back injuries are not more commonplace as other injuries that tend to afflict players. What is just as unexpected is when a player such as Corey Adams who had late season back surgery last year, is able against all odds to go full contact in spring practice less than six months since his injury took place.

Granted, some of Corey Adams's family and friends were yearning for him to stay in his own backyard and play for the Sun Devils. Yet, they wisely didn't try to aggressively steer the defensive tackle to Tempe, and rather let him make up his mind on his own timetable. Ultimately, the state's best 2009 prospect settled on ASU thanks to the approach those around him took concerning his recruitment.
