Simmons issues a guarantee

PULLMAN – Monday night practices this year have included rest and precautionary sit-downs for starters. That wasn't the case yesterday. CF.C also turned the mic on head man Paul Wulff and CB Daniel Simmons. The defensive back, after watching the film of the USC loss, described the D's performance as "sickening." He said he and his teammates are going to fix it. And then he issued a guarantee.

PULLMAN – A successful practice week is like a train gathering speed. It builds and builds, up to and through when players hit the field Saturday. There was a notable increase in energy on Wednesday with the Cougs, and the defense was leading the way.

Hoffman-Ellis has words for Cougar fans

PULLMAN -- Linebacker Alex Hoffman-Ellis after practice on Monday said that the Cougars, players and coaches alike, believe they can compete at a high level even if some fans don't. And he had some pointed remarks for those in the Cougar Nation who are questioning the coaches and players on the effort, performance and end result in the close win over MSU on Saturday.

Arm-tackling Cougs aim to 'wrap up' this week

PULLMAN – The Cougs were back to full-contact drills Tuesday as they look to salve their Stillwater wounds with a big Saturday against Montana State. Tackling was a major emphasis, but it was an INT by a young corner that got tongues wagging. Meanwhile, Jared Karstetter showed no ill effects from his concussion at OSU but injuries at DT and LB surfaced. And taking it all in were some NFL scouts.

WSU d-line dances to own music Wednesday

PULLMAN -- Simulating road conditions, with the opener at Oklahoma State now just 10 days away, the Cougs closed out Wednesday's 95-degree session at Martin Stadium with the noise of screaming fans blaring out of the stadium's speakers. The Cougar defensive line turned the racket into a private anthem.

Wolfgramm makes big return; injury at corner

PULLMAN – Bernard Wolfgramm was back in action for the Cougars on Tuesday and the starting defensive tackle appeared to have lost nary a step during his hamstring rehab. All the news on the injury front wasn't good, however.
