Taylor Thompson is easily finding his groove as a tight end in Tennessee. Though he played defensive end for four years at SMU, his past experience at wide receiver in high school is serving him well with the Titans.

SMU defensive end/tight end hybrid Taylor Thompson was on the golf course in Houston Saturday when the Titans called him up to inform him they'd be drafting him in a couple minutes. Tennessee was one of 10 teams Thompson had been talking with months leading up to the NFL Draft and he couldn't be happier about his placement.

Notebook: SMU Pro Day

There were 25 NFL teams represented at SMU's Pro Day on Wednesday. The Mustangs had 12 draft prospects participate in the combine-like drills, each hoping to improve their stock as best they could. Said June Jones of his 2008 freshmen class to reach this day, "They did a good job, everybody."

QUICK HITS: SMU routs Pitt in Compass Bowl

The Mustangs got their second bowl win under June Jones by beating Pitt 28-6 in the Compass Bowl Saturday. SMU has reached the post-season the last three years in a row after a 25-year hiatus due to long-lasting effects from the Death Penalty. The win was Jones' 100th career victory as a college football coach.

From the Eastern Bloc to blocking kicks

Margus Hunt has blocked four kicks in SMU's first three games of the season and has tied the NCAA record with eight blocked field goals. But football wasn't the initial plan for Hunt. He grew up a discus thrower in Estonia and came to SMU to train with one of the nation's best track & field coaches. But sometimes, things change and now Hunt is an integral part of SMU's rising football program.
