Venezuelan Winter League Kicks Off Next Week

The Arizona Fall League is in full stride, but it is not the only offseason league that has Mariners players seeing action. The Venezuelan Winter League is the next to kick off. The league has eight teams which play 63 regular seasons games starting this Wednesday, October 12th, in two round robin phases before the playoffs begin on January 2nd.

Brian Lawrence returns – and earns a win in Portland. Nathan Culp is money across seven and is backed by Eric Sogard. Corey Kluber strikes out 14 but still takes the loss. Fort Wayne clinches, seeing Allan Dykstra and Blake Tekotte go deep. The DSL Padres are swept – and two losses can be attributed to Jairo Gomez.

Cory Luebke pitches a complete game, getting help from Logan Forsythe and Colt Morton. All-Star Zach Herr gives up four runs, as does Alexis Lara, after Nick Schmidt tossed blanks. Freddys Henrique is battered across three while Carlos Garcia continues the hot start.
