There might not be a more perfect name for a high school quarterback than Stephen Buckshot Calvert, and Buckshot is his given middle name.
The Miami Carol City junior quarterback is expected to put up big numbers running the Chiefs offense this season. Calvert is 6-foot-2, 175-pounds.
"I'm a quarterback that can make all the throws, and I've got leadership skills that coaches like," Calvert stated. "I'm working on getting bigger and stronger, and focusing on getting better at reading coverages."
"I played for Chaminade-Madonna last year before transferring to Carol City," he added. "I'm very excited for the opportunity at Carol City, and I think we are going to be really good this year."
Although college recruiting is just beginning for Calvert, he does hold one offer.
"I was offered by South Florida after throwing for them at their camp," he explained. "It felt amazing to get that first offer, to be honest. I like South Florida a lot, and I'm hoping to visit this fall. I felt comfortable around their coaches, and they seem like great guys."
"I've also heard from Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Cincinnati, and a few other schools," he added. "My favorite school is Miami, and my dream would be to play for the Canes and get a national championship ring. Growing up in Miami, there's nothing like The U."
