VIDEO: U.S. military smokes ISIS Humvee

The Pentagon released a video Monday depicting a recent attack that took place near the Mosul Dam, a key structure in Iraq that was recently captured by ISIS. According to reports, Iraqi and Kurdish forces regained control of the dam Monday with the aid of U.S. special forces on the ground.

The weekend attacks were carried out under the supervision of U.S. Central Command forces and featured a mix of fighter, bomber, and remotely piloted aircraft, according to Pentagon officials.

The strikes were conducted to support humanitarian efforts in Iraq, as well as to protect critical infrastructure, U.S. assets in the region, and support Iraqi security forces and Kurdish defense forces in the area.

A total of 14 strikes were conducted in Iraq on Sunday alone, Pentagon officials said, damaging or destroying at least 10 enemy armed vehicles, seven Humvees, a pair of armored personnel carriers, and one ISIS checkpoint.

These attacks came in addition to nine U.S. airstrikes on Saturday, according to Pentagon officials.

All aircraft returned home safely.

The attacks were part of a larger effort to reclaim the dam seized by ISIS the previous week.

Iraqi and Kurdish fighters reportedly reclaimed the key structure after days of bitter fighting.

According to a BBC report, Kurdish officials said the victory was achieved with the aid of U.S. "special forces [who] were on the ground helping to co-ordinate air strikes."
