SCOUT ANALYST JOHN BOLLMAN'S TAKE
Cease struggled to adapt to the majors last season, but really started to turn things around over his last 4 starts. Cease finished his rookie season 4-7 with a 5.79 ERA. From July-August, Cease went 3-7 with a 6.92 ERA, but was 1-0 with a 3.0 ERA in September/October. Cease’s finish to 2019 along with 83Ks to 35 BBS in 73.0 IP are reasons to be optimistic this season. The signings of veteran Ps Gio Gonzalez and Dallas Keuchel should put less pressure on Cease who will compete for the 5th spot in the rotation.
REST OF SEASON OUTLOOK AND POSITION RANK
Dylan Cease is not projected to be worth a roster spot. His -33.61 projected fantasy points puts him at #241 behind Jordan Lyles and ahead of Alex McRae. He has averaged -3.04 fantasy points in his past 14 games, which is less than our projected per game average. He is projected to average -1.24 fantasy points. His rank based on avg proj (#235) is better than his rank based on total fantasy points. Dylan Cease is expected to come up short of last season's #186 fantasy position rank.
DYLAN CEASE WEEK 3 AND 4 FANTASY OUTLOOK
Dylan Cease is projected for -2.8 fantasy points in one game in week 3 which only ranks him as the #239 projected starting pitcher and not a fantasy relevant player. This is projected to be a below average game with fewer fantasy points than he is projected to average per game the rest of the season. He is ranked above Daniel Norris but behind Jordan Lyles. Week 4 will be better based on projected rank (#221). He is projected for -1.28 fantasy points.
