Blackmon To The IL With A Injured Calf

SCOUT ANALYST JOHN BOLLMAN'S TAKE

Charlie Blackmon was placed on the IL over the weekend with a strained calf, retroactive to last Friday. He is not expected to miss more than the minimum IL time. With Blackmon injured, Ian Desmond will most likely get the extra playing time in the outfield. With Blackmon coming off the IL after the minimum, I would not suggest picking up Desmond.

REST OF SEASON VALUE

There are 12 outfielders owned in 100% of leagues and Charlie Blackmon is projected to be the #3 among them. Using actual fantasy production and current start percentage as the first and second tie-breaker, his market rank is #2. The projections expect his value to decrease slightly. He is projected for 298 fantasy points in 80 remaining games. His projected average FP rank is the same as his rest of season total rank. The market ranks Charlie Blackmon behind Yelich and above Trout but the projections rank Trout over Charlie Blackmon.

WEEKLY FANTASY VALUE

His market rank based on start percentage among outfielders for the rest of week 14 is #6, which is less than his market rank of #2. In week 15 rankings vs other outfielders instead of Blackmon consider these better options at lower start percentages: Justin Upton (20 FP), Starling Marte (20.7 FP), Thomas Pham (20.5 FP), Joey Gallo (21 FP), and Nomar Mazara (18.7 FP). Starting in all virtually all leagues he is expected to produce 21 fantasy points (WK 15). At his start percentage, he is expected to be the #5 outfielder of the week, but he is projected to be the #15 outfielder. In terms of total fantasy points he projected to come up 2.3 short of expectations. His per game projected FP average is 3.9 which is less than his actual per game average (4.5). In addition to a below average projected FP average, he also is expected to play just 4.812 games.

    DAILY FANTASY VALUE

FANDUEL VALUE (6/26): There are 2 other options at $4300 (Joey Gallo, Yordan Alvarez) and Blackmon is the best option of these 3. These are 2 better options at lower salaries: Michael Brantley (13.7 FP) and Aaron Judge (14.1 FP). Based on salary, he is expected to have 13.1 FPs, a value reached in 78 of 222 games (35%). The combined 'cover percentage' for outfielders expected to start is 42%.

DRAFTKINGS VALUE: Blackmon is projected for 10.5 DraftKings points and is fairly ranked. He is the #4 highest priced outfielder ($5700). At his projected points, he is worth a salary of $5.8K (expected pts per $ is calculated daily based on the average of healthy starters). George Springer (11.1 FP) is projected for more points at a lower salary. Based on salary, he is expected to have 10.3 FPs, a value reached in 77 of 222 games (35%). The combined 'cover percentage' for outfielders expected to start is 39%.

Blackmon is NOT in the SportsLine DraftKings optimal lineup or the FanDuel optimal lineup which are based on the computer model's projection. SportsLine.com also offers premium optimal lineups from Mike McClure, a professional DFS player who has over $1 million in career winnings. He uses his own proprietary model to find great DFS values and often differs from the computer in how a player is projected to play on a daily basis.
