Top middle relievers are often setup men who are an injury away from being top rated fantasy closers.
In our latest projections Ryan Brasier is the number one middle reliever, followed by Josh Hader and Pedro Strop. Kenley Jansen and Roberto Osuna are our top ranked closers. As far as starting pitchers go, you cannot do better than Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. Below are our top 60 projected starting pitchers, top 30 closers and top 30 middle relievers. We ranked players based on the projected total fantasy points. We also have their fantasy projection per appearance. In cases where a player is a free agent we have their team from the 2018 season.

Top 60 Starting Pitchers
The #42 ranked starting pitcher is Jake Arrieta with a projection of 82 total fantasy points. Last season, he finished as the #108 ranked player so we are projecting a big improvement in 2020. Aaron Nola is not projected to be as good in 2019 (#12) as he was in 2018 where he finished as the #5 starting pitcher. But with 144 total projected fantasy points he is still a full-time, elite fantasy starting pitcher.

Top 30 Closers
With 250 total projected fantasy points Corey Knebel is ranked as the #14 closers. In 2018 he was just the #18 ranked player at the position. He could be someone worth slightly more than you might think in 2019. Shane Greene is not projected to be as good in 2019 (#27) as he was in 2018 where he finished as the #12 closers. With 181 total projected fantasy points he is still clearly worth a roster spot and will contribute.

Top 30 Middle Relievers
The #22 ranked middle reliever is Ty Buttrey with a projection of 33 total fantasy points. One player who is expected to slip in the fantasy middle reliever rankings is Lou Trivino who last season was #18 but is projected to be #24 this season. With 32 total projected fantasy points he is still clearly worth a roster spot and will contribute.
