Fantasy NBA: Top 5 Weekly Boom and Bust Players

Our goal with this analysis is to not only tell you who the best players will be, but also tell you who most frequently exceeds their overall rank (boom players) and who comes up short the most frequently (weekly bust). This is a season review of players who, when healthy, delivered boom weeks at a high rate and / or have been big busts that should have been benched. To determine if a player had a boom week we take that player's rank for the week and see if it is numerically 50% of his overall weekly average. A player who averages to be the 50th best player at his position would need to finish the week Top 25 to qualify. Conversely, a bust week is one where a player's rank is numerically 50% higher than their normal weekly rank.

The guard with the highest boom rate is Stephen Curry whose per week average rank was #17. Out of 23 qualifying weeks, 13 were considered boom weeks. At the forward position, LeBron James was the leader in boom rate. Enes Kanter 'leads' his position in bust rate. In his 22 weeks, 6 were bad, busts. The table below shows the player with the five highest boom and bust rates. The rank is based on the player's average position rank per week and not their season total fantasy points.
