SCOUT ANALYST JOHN BOLLMAN'S TAKE
James Neal was traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Milan Lucic. The Oilers will retain some of Lucic’s salary and will include a conditional draft pick. Both these players signed massive contracts recently and both are coming off poor seasons, so this seems like more of each team trying to get a better contract than anything.
DRAFT ADVICE AND POSITION RANK
Our projection says James Neal is not worth drafting for the 2019-2020 season but he is a borderline fantasy player. His 22 projected fantasy points puts him at #135 behind Michael Dal Colle and ahead of Andreas Martinsen. He has averaged 0.78 fantasy points in his past 63 games, which is more than our projected per game average. He is projected to average 0.27 fantasy points. His rank based on avg proj (#138) is worse than his rank based on total fantasy points. James Neal is expected to come up short of last season's #95 fantasy position rank.
